So I just got done watching Steve Jobs in his keynote on the introduction of the new Apple iPhone. I must say, I am thoroughly impressed and extremely excited. At a first glance - I'll admit, I was a bit skeptical with the idea of Apple releasing a "revolutionary" mobile phone. Having purchased Cisco's VoIP "iPhone" to function as our primary phone on Skype in our office, I was baffled at the idea of Apple infringing upon Cisco's trademarked "iPhone" product line.
Shortly after the release, I began to read articles about Cisco suing Apple over the infringement and controversy between the two products. "Who does Apple think they are? Do the laws not apply to Apple and their products?" were my common thoughts on the subject and at most I was expecting another twist on the iPod, but this time with built in phone capabilities.
Boy was I wrong - after watching the keynote and seeing Steve Jobs demonstrate the iPhone in action, I was "awe" struck and amazed that such a slim, sexy, mobile phone device (4.5 x 2.4 x 0.46 inches, specs here) could pack so many awesome features and such innovative technology. The idea of being able to access your music, movies, photos, email, web, and messenger - while still being able to talk to friends, family and business colleagues over the phone on one mobile device is truly "revolutionary". Not only that but you can do all of this with the touch of your finger. The fact that Apple is capable of creating such a device proves how far technology has come and gives us a real glimpse of how we will be using computer technology in the near future.
At last, the technology industry has a definitive reason to innovate and improve upon a market that has lacked in so many areas (features, functionality, connectivity and form factor) since the early concepts of ultra mobile personal computers, also known as UMPC's. The year 2007 marks the era of true mobile computing and the release of Apple's "iPhone" is going to ignite and pave the way for growth in this industry. The way we communicate, share and utilize technology will never be the same.
Having just incorporated "Dream Devise Design" - a technology based company out of Chicago Illinois, with two brilliant and dedicated partners (KD Churchill and Devon Harper) and over the years, continuously and passionately learning about the technology industry and where it is leading us, only reinforces my confidence in choosing the right business to be apart of. The opportunities and potential for growth are awesome. Becoming a tech-savvy business professional and playing a significant role in building a successful technology oriented business is exciting and fulfills part of my greatest dreams. I must admit - being a part of this process and having the opportunity with work with such great minds has never been more enjoyable.
Mobile devices such as Apple's iPhone are vital to the growth of technology and how it interacts with us on a daily basis. I believe this is only the beginning for revolutionary products that will be introduced in 2007 and in the near future. You will get to see how truly amazing computer technology can be and how exciting it is to be apart of this Information Age we all live in.
